Direct Mail Automation for Australian DTC Brands

TouchDrop is the direct mail automation platform built specifically for Australian Shopify brands. Connect your store, set a trigger, design a postcard — and the platform handles print, post, and performance tracking automatically.

Why direct mail works for Australian e-commerce

Australian consumers receive far fewer marketing postcards than their US counterparts — which means a physical postcard stands out in a way that email and digital ads no longer can. The average letterbox in Australia sees a fraction of the mail volume of the US, making it a low-competition, high-attention channel for DTC brands willing to use it.

Combined with the trackability of QR codes and unique discount codes, modern direct mail delivers measurable ROAS — not a vague brand-awareness effect.

How TouchDrop works

1. Connect your Shopify store

Install the TouchDrop Shopify app. Your store data — customer records, order events, Klaviyo or Omnisend segments — flows into TouchDrop automatically.

2. Design your postcard

Use the template editor to place your artwork, merge fields (name, discount code), and QR code. Standard A5 postcard format, printed on both sides.

3. Set a trigger

Choose when to send: abandoned cart after 24 hours, win-back after 90 days of no purchase, post-purchase thank-you, or a manual one-time send to a Klaviyo or Omnisend segment.

4. Track and optimise

Every postcard includes a unique QR code. Scans, site visits, and resulting orders are tracked against a 60-day attribution window. ROAS is visible in your dashboard.

What makes TouchDrop different

Built for Australia

Printed and lodged inside Australia via Australia Post. AUD pricing with GST invoices. Australian address validation, parcel locker filtering, and local support in AEST business hours. US platforms don't offer this.

Automated — not manual

Set a trigger once. TouchDrop runs continuously: every eligible customer gets a postcard without you lifting a finger. Suppression logic prevents over-mailing automatically.

Trackable ROAS

Every recipient gets a unique QR code and a unique discount code. You see exactly which postcards generated revenue — not an estimated lift, an actual attributed order.

No print minimums

Send one postcard or ten thousand. Pay per piece, on a transparent AUD pricing schedule. No contracts, no minimums, no surprise charges.

Common questions

Do the big direct mail apps actually work in Australia?

Mostly not. The best-known triggered-postcard apps for Shopify are built for the United States and bill in USD, and several of them do not fulfil inside Australia at all, so Australian merchants end up on a waitlist or mailed from offshore. Mailing in from overseas adds international postage and transit to every card. Our alternatives pages compare the specific platforms side by side, and you should re-check any vendor's own site before deciding, because this changes.

Why does it matter where the postcards are printed?

Because printing offshore and shipping in adds both cost and time to every piece. TouchDrop prints in Australia and lodges with Australia Post through a licensed Australian mail house, which keeps postage at domestic rates and delivery within Australia Post's published 3-7 business day window rather than the weeks international print-and-ship can take.

Is it legal to post marketing to my customers without separate consent?

Australian Privacy Principle 7 does cover addressed postal mail, so this is a real question rather than a formality. The general position is that using a customer's address for direct marketing is permissible where the customer would reasonably expect it given how you collected the data, and where a simple opt-out is offered. Where address data came from a third party rather than the customer, the bar is higher. Check your own signup and privacy wording against the OAIC guidance, and treat this as legal advice you get rather than take from a vendor page.

Does this work without Klaviyo?

Yes. TouchDrop connects natively to Shopify, to Klaviyo and to Omnisend, and there is a CSV path for stores on any other email platform. You can build a lapsed audience from Shopify order recency alone. The attribution mechanism is the same either way.

How is a postcard tracked back to a sale?

Each card carries a unique discount code tied to that recipient plus a QR code, and orders are matched inside a 60-day attribution window. To know what mail actually caused rather than what it correlated with, hold back a random slice of the eligible segment and compare it against the mailed group.

What return should I plan for?

Plan around 2.5x incremental for well-targeted retention mail and treat anything above it as upside. For context on why retention mail beats cold mail, the DMA/ANA Response Rate Report (2018) put house-list response at 9% against 4.9% for prospect lists. A win-back campaign on the founders' own DTC brand returned 6.2x ROI. Treat published cases as what a well-built flow can do, not as a forecast, and run a holdout so your own number is real.

Which customers should I mail first?

Lapsed repeat buyers. They already bought once, they have stopped opening your email, and the offer economics work because you are not paying to reach strangers. Win-back is the flow to prove first; extend to high-value abandoned cart and post-purchase once the holdout says it works.

Is TouchDrop available outside Australia?

Australia is the live self-serve market. The United Kingdom is invite-only. Do not plan an international programme around it today.

How precisely can I target, and can I choose postcodes or segments myself?

You target by building the audience the way you already do: any Shopify customer or order field, or any Klaviyo or Omnisend segment, including geographic cuts such as by postcode or region. You define the segment and TouchDrop mails it, and if you want a specific geographic slice set up we can help arrange it. Cards join a daily print batch, so you choose the send day rather than a specific hour, which suits event-based mail. Suppression runs underneath, with a 45-day global window and a rolling 90-day cap of three pieces per recipient, so tighter targeting never means the same customer is mailed repeatedly.
