Five Klaviyo flows with a postcard step
You can add a postcard to a Klaviyo flow in two ways. Put a Webhook action in the flow and point it at a TouchDrop campaign's trigger URL, so each person who reaches that step queues one card. Or build the audience as a Klaviyo segment and let an automated TouchDrop campaign mail people as they join it. Below are five flows with the trigger, the wait, the filter and the step where the card goes, set up the way TouchDrop connects to Klaviyo today.

Two routes from Klaviyo to a printed card
| Flow webhook | Segment campaign | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the card sits | A Webhook action at any step of a Klaviyo flow | Outside the flow: TouchDrop mails the segment |
| TouchDrop campaign | Campaign type Webhook Trigger | A Klaviyo segment as the audience, Send Mode Automated |
| When TouchDrop picks people up | About 5 minutes after the webhook fires | Once a day, at 2:00 AM Sydney time |
| First run | People who reach the step after you switch it on | Everyone already in the segment, then people as they join |
| Leaving early | Leaving the flow after the webhook fires keeps the card queued | Leaving the segment before the card prints cancels it |
| Repeat entry | One card per person per campaign | One card per person per campaign |
Both routes give every card its own discount code and QR code, run TouchDrop's address checks and suppression rules, and attribute orders back to the campaign.
Set up the webhook step
- In TouchDrop, create a campaign and choose Webhook Trigger as the campaign type. Add the artwork and the offer, then save. The Trigger URL appears on the campaign page. TouchDrop reviews each new campaign once before its first cards print.
- In Klaviyo, drag the Webhook action into the flow at the step where the card belongs. Klaviyo requires two-step authentication and the Manager, Admin or Owner role to add a webhook.
- Paste the Trigger URL as the destination URL. The URL carries the campaign's token, so treat it like a password. If it leaks, rotate it on the campaign page and paste the new one into the flow.
- Under Headers, add
Content-Typewith the valueapplication/json. - Paste this JSON body:
{
"email": "{{ person.email }}",
"first_name": "{{ person.first_name|default:'' }}",
"last_name": "{{ person.last_name|default:'' }}"
}
With your Shopify store connected to TouchDrop, that body is enough: TouchDrop takes the postal address from the customer's Shopify orders. Without a connected store, send the address from the Klaviyo profile as well:
{
"email": "{{ person.email }}",
"first_name": "{{ person.first_name|default:'' }}",
"last_name": "{{ person.last_name|default:'' }}",
"address": {
"address1": "{{ person|lookup:'$address1'|default:'' }}",
"address2": "{{ person|lookup:'$address2'|default:'' }}",
"city": "{{ person|lookup:'$city'|default:'' }}",
"state": "{{ person|lookup:'$region'|default:'' }}",
"postcode": "{{ person|lookup:'$zip'|default:'' }}",
"country": "AU"
}
}
Klaviyo sends webhooks as POST requests and counts any 2xx response as a success. TouchDrop answers 202 when it accepts the person and 422 when the address cannot produce a card. Klaviyo files errors it will not retry in the webhook's Skipped queue, so check that queue after the first few days. The campaign page lists recent triggers as processed, pending or skipped, with the reason for each skip. The integration API guide lists every field and response code.
Set up a segment campaign
- Build the segment in Klaviyo.
- In TouchDrop, connect Klaviyo under Settings, Integrations. Create a campaign of the matching type, such as Win-Back or Klaviyo Segment, pick your segment under Audience Sources and set Send Mode to Automated.
- Check the segment's size in Klaviyo before you launch. The first run mails everyone already in it; after that, TouchDrop picks people up as they join.
How long the card takes
TouchDrop prints and lodges automated cards in a weekly run, and Australia Post's published delivery time for regular letters is 3 to 7 business days from lodgement. Set Klaviyo's time delays around the customer's decision, and expect the card to land some days after the step that sent it.
1. Win-back
For customers who bought before and have gone quiet. The card goes to the people your win-back email did not bring back.
| Step | What to set |
|---|---|
| Trigger | Added to segment: your lapsed-customer segment, for example Placed Order at least once over all time and zero times in the last 120 days. Set the window from your own reorder cycle. |
| Wait | Your win-back email first, then a time delay of 7 days. |
| Filter | Flow filter: Placed Order zero times since starting this flow. Klaviyo checks profile filters before each action and skips the action for anyone who fails. |
| Postcard step | Webhook action after the delay, with the win-back offer on the card. |
| TouchDrop campaign | Webhook Trigger. To skip the flow, point an automated Win-Back campaign at the segment instead. |
2. Post-purchase
For new customers, to win the second order. The card arrives after the first order has been used.
| Step | What to set |
|---|---|
| Trigger | Metric: Placed Order. |
| Wait | A delay long enough for the order to arrive and be used, such as 14 days. |
| Filter | Flow filter: Placed Order zero times since starting this flow, so anyone who reorders first is skipped. To mail first-time buyers alone, add a filter on the number of orders over all time. |
| Postcard step | Webhook action after the delay, with a second-order code on the card. |
| TouchDrop campaign | Webhook Trigger. |
3. VIP and loyalty
For your best customers, as a thank-you with early access or a loyalty reward.
| Step | What to set |
|---|---|
| Trigger | Added to segment: your VIP segment, for example Placed Order at least 4 times over all time, or your top spenders. |
| Wait | None, or a short delay after the VIP welcome email. |
| Filter | Klaviyo's re-entry settings on the segment trigger, so a profile that drops out and qualifies again does not restart the flow. |
| Postcard step | Webhook action straight after the trigger or the welcome email. |
| TouchDrop campaign | Webhook Trigger, or an automated Birthday / VIP campaign pointed at the segment. |
4. Lapsed subscriber
For subscription brands, to win back a cancelled subscription. Your subscription app sends the cancellation to Klaviyo as a metric. Recharge, for example, sends Subscription cancelled on ReCharge and Recharge subscription reactivated.
| Step | What to set |
|---|---|
| Trigger | Metric: your subscription app's cancellation event, such as Subscription cancelled on ReCharge. |
| Wait | Your cancellation emails first, then a delay of 7 days. |
| Filter | Flow filter: Recharge subscription reactivated zero times since starting this flow, so anyone who comes back on their own is skipped. |
| Postcard step | Webhook action after the delay, with a reactivation offer on the card. |
| TouchDrop campaign | Webhook Trigger. |
5. Browse and cart abandonment
For shoppers who left without buying. Mail the carts worth a card and let email handle the rest.
| Step | What to set |
|---|---|
| Trigger | Metric: Started Checkout for cart abandonment, or Viewed Product for browse abandonment. |
| Wait | Your abandonment emails first, then a delay of 1 to 2 days. |
| Filter | Flow filter: Placed Order zero times since starting this flow. Add a trigger filter on the checkout value so only carts above your chosen amount get a card; Klaviyo checks trigger filters once, when the person enters the flow. |
| Postcard step | Webhook action after the last email. |
| TouchDrop campaign | Webhook Trigger. Shopify brands can also use the Cart Abandonment campaign type with a Klaviyo segment. |
TouchDrop needs a postal address for each person: from your connected Shopify store's orders, an address TouchDrop already holds, or the address fields in the webhook body. A first-time visitor with no order and no address on their Klaviyo profile cannot get a card, so browse abandonment works best on past customers.
Send TouchDrop activity back to Klaviyo
With Klaviyo connected, TouchDrop adds events to each recipient's existing Klaviyo profile: TouchDrop Postcard In Production, TouchDrop Postcard Sent, TouchDrop QR Scanned, TouchDrop Code Redeemed and TouchDrop Attributed Order. Postcard Sent also sets three profile properties: TouchDrop Last Postcard Sent, TouchDrop Estimated Delivery and TouchDrop Last Campaign. TouchDrop never creates a Klaviyo profile. If your connection only allows reading, TouchDrop asks you to reconnect with Klaviyo and choose Allow.
- Filter on TouchDrop Postcard Sent to hold an email offer back from people who already have the card.
- Start a date-property flow from TouchDrop Estimated Delivery to send an email when the card should be in the letterbox.
- Build a segment of people who scanned the QR code and have not ordered.
Before you switch a flow on
- Make sure the Klaviyo user who adds the webhook has two-step authentication on.
- Run the flow on your own profile and check the trigger shows as processed on the TouchDrop campaign page.
- Know the default sending rules: TouchDrop skips anyone it mailed in the last 45 days and caps each person at 3 cards in 90 days, across campaigns.
- To measure lift, leave a random slice of the segment out of the flow and compare its orders with the mailed group's.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a developer to add a postcard to a Klaviyo flow?
No. The webhook action takes the trigger URL from your TouchDrop campaign page, one header and a short JSON body you can copy from that page. Klaviyo asks for two-step authentication and the Manager, Admin or Owner role before you can add a webhook.
Should I use a flow webhook or a segment campaign?
Use the webhook when the card is one step in a sequence and its timing depends on the emails before it. Use a segment campaign when you want to mail everyone who matches a rule; TouchDrop then cancels a queued card if the person leaves the segment before it prints.
Will a customer get two cards if they enter the flow twice?
Not from the same campaign. TouchDrop mails each person once per campaign. Across campaigns, the default rules skip anyone mailed in the last 45 days and cap each person at 3 cards in 90 days.
Does the webhook need the customer's postal address?
Only when TouchDrop cannot find one. With your Shopify store connected, TouchDrop takes the address from the customer's Shopify orders. Without it, add the address fields from the Klaviyo profile to the JSON body.
How long after the webhook step does the card arrive?
TouchDrop accepts the person within about 5 minutes. It prints and lodges automated cards in a weekly run, and Australia Post's published delivery time for regular letters is 3 to 7 business days from lodgement.
